What is acupuncture?
A holistic form of medicine that dates back to ancient China, acupuncture involves the art and science of balancing natural meridians within the body. Similar to flows of digestion, circulation, and the nervous system, there are 12 meridians in your body along which energy or “qi” flows. When these are out of balance, issues arise. Dysfunction along the lung meridian, for example, can cause upper respiratory problems as well as anxiety. These problems can be mental, emotional, and of course, physical.
Much like tension and stress leads to headaches and a tight upper back, blocked qi can do the same. The practice of acupuncture places tiny needles at specific meridian points to stimulate and channel the flow of blocked qi. Using these targeted methods, a skilled acupuncturist can restore health and balance across the body.
